Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is accomplished through one-on-one consultation and spiritual guidance with a priest. Help is given to recognize and understand how we should be responding to the Lord's inspiration in our lives. The sacraments are utilized. Most importantly the Sacrament of Reconciliation, scripture reading, or other spiritual reading, may be recommended. The priest will also listen to you, pray with you, and offer advice that will be of help to your particular needs.

Spiritual direction is a form of help, for growth toward holiness, that has been used for centuries in the Catholic Church. Many of the saints have had a Spiritual Director that they have relied upon to keep them focused on the right path.

Sacramental Formation — Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation team members work with sponsors, help plan Tuesday night sessions, are catechists on Sunday mornings, help with the Retreats, and hospitality. This ministry guides individuals who are seeking more knowledge of the Roman Catholic Faith. It seeks to join their journey of Faith with ours through the initiation Sacraments (Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation) at Easter Vigil Mass; and continues the journey to a lifelong seeking out and living the Gospel values in association with the Roman Catholic Church.

The weekly meetings consist of: instructions on the scriptures, teachings, doctrines, traditions, sacraments, and liturgy of the Roman Catholic Faith. This ministry requires 3 to 4 hours weekly.

For further information, or to join the Sacramental Formation team please contact the Parish Office (409-8336433).

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve primarily during Mass at Communion time assisting the Priest. The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion may help with either the host or the wine. In addition, some may also take Communion to the homebound. The requirements to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion are few. Attend a training session, attend Mass regularly, believe in the real presence, be confirmed, honor your commitment to serve, and be attempting to live a life of Gospel values.

After training you will be mandated by the Bishop and are then ready to begin serving the Parish community. If the Spirit leads you to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy communion you will find it rewarding.

For further information, or to join the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion team, please call the Parish Office at 833-6433.

Lector – Proclaimer of the Word

Lectors are responsible for proclaiming the word of God during the celebration of the Liturgy. In practical terms, this consists of proclaiming the Hebrew Scripture and then the New Testament reading. The Lector has a responsibility to practice the assigned readings the previous week. Practice is required so that the Lector is able to proclaim the readings with genuine feeling. The Lector also emphasizes the important message that the writer of the passage intends.

Training will be provided to make you feel comfortable with this important ministry. After the training you will grow in confidence and skill. You will then be placed on the Liturgical ministry schedule. If you have a love for the word of God please consider this ministry for sharing your time and talent.

Altar Server

Altar serving at St. Anthony Cathedral Parish is open to all boys and girls 12 years of age, who have made their first communion. Training is held several times through the year. Once training is completed and the children are ready to make the commitment, they will be placed on the schedule and will begin to share their time and talent with the Parish Community. After a few years of serving, a server may become an Episcopal server; which means they will be asked to server at Masses for the Bishop. We have numerous celebrations throughout the year that require Episcopal servers, so the need is great.

Usher

Men and women are needed at all masses to meet and greet people as they come to mass. Be at mass 15 - 20 minutes before mass begins to assist people with the doors and help them find a pew. Ushers also take up the collections at Mass. The ushers ask for people to bring up the gifts during mass and guide the gift bearers. At the end of Mass ushers give the bulletins to the departing assembly. Serving as an usher requires 1/2 hour extra time at the mass for which they serve.

Greeting Ministry

Each week we are in need of individuals and families to greet parishioners as they enter the church. We also rely on these friendly volunteers to pass out important parish information, collect the offertory and provide assistance as needed during the Mass.

Divine Mercy Committee

The purpose of this committee is to spread the Divine Mercy devotion as requested by Jesus to Saint Faustina. This special feast is always celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, which is called Divine Mercy Sunday. Mass is celebrated followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 P.M. A reception for those in attendance is also planned. This is a diocesan event and members from all parishes are invited to serve on this committee. A meeting is scheduled in January. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate and attend this beautiful celebration of Jesus' Divine Mercy.

For further information, or to join the Divine Mercy Committee please call the Parish Office at 409-8336433.

St. Joseph Day Celebration

The purpose of the traditional "St. Joseph Altar" is to honor St. Joseph on his feast day, March 19th. Saint Joseph is a very powerful intercessor before God for us! He was the husband of Mary and was selected by God to be the foster father of Jesus and the head and protector of the Holy Family. The traditional Pasta Milanese dinner along with the traditional fig cookies, biscottis, bread and vegetables are served to all that attend. Donations are collected at the door. All proceeds from the celebration are given to the poor and to organizations that minister to the poor.

A month prior to St. Joseph's Day, a sign up table will be in the vestibule of the church so that all parishioners will have an opportunity to volunteer their time, talent and treasure (buying ingredients, baking cookies, cooking, construction, decorating, serving, cleanup, etc.). The St. Joseph Committee meets in January, February and March in preparation for this special celebration. Parishioners from all parishes are welcome to work on this committee.

Sacristan / Sexton

Have you ever wondered who prepares the sanctuary for Mass? Who ensures all the vessels used by the Priest such as the chalice and purificator, paten (bread plate), the cups for wine, and the pitcher and basin for washing his hands are ready and in place? What about making sure there are enough hosts and wine for Holy Communion? The sacristan performs all these duties in service to the Parish Community. The sacristan arrives one hour before Mass to prepare for Mass as mentioned above. After Mass, the sacristan cleans the vessels and returns them to their proper places in the sacristy.

Sexton: Keeping a watchful eye on the Cathedral property, especially making sure the Cathedral's doors are opened time and secured after services is the ancient roll of a porter or sexton. This vigilant person takes good care that the Cathedral property is not damaged during the day or night. As the one who has great concern for the Cathedral the sexton insures it's environs are maintained and kept beautiful.

Seasonal Decoration / Church Environment

Each year as the Church prepares for the holidays of Christmas and Easter, we are in need of individuals and families willing to join us to create a special environment for the Liturgical celebrations. No special decorating skills are required, just a love for the Lord and a willingness to work with others. Everyone is welcome to join in this important ministry.
